Transfer Overview

A private transfer from Puerto Natales or Torres del Paine to El Calafate lets you cross from Chilean Patagonia to Argentina without going through bus terminals, fixed bus schedules, or separate connections. It can also be booked in the opposite direction, from El Calafate back to Puerto Natales or Torres del Paine.

Pickup is arranged at your hotel, apartment, or another agreed address, with drop-off in El Calafate or the surrounding area. This is especially useful if you are already staying in Torres del Paine and want to continue to El Calafate, Perito Moreno Glacier, El Calafate Airport (FTE), or further north toward El Chaltén with our El Chaltén, Torres del Paine and Puerto Natales private transfer, without returning to Puerto Natales for a bus.

We choose the vehicle based on your group size and luggage, from SUV-class vehicles to vans and minibuses. When booking, please tell us the number of passengers, the ages of children if applicable, and the number and size of suitcases (S, M, L, or XL).

  • Frequently Asked Questions about the Puerto Natales-El Calafate Private Transfer

How long does the transfer from Puerto Natales to El Calafate take?
The transfer usually takes a little over 5 hours. The final travel time depends on weather, road conditions, border checks, and the number of stops.
During the summer season, from November to March, the border may take longer because of increased traffic.
How far is Puerto Natales from El Calafate?
The route is approximately 280 km, depending on the exact pickup and drop-off addresses.
The drive includes an international border crossing between Chile and Argentina, so the total travel time depends not only on distance, but also on the time needed for border procedures.
Which border crossing does the route use?
The route usually uses the Río Don Guillermo border complex on the Chilean side and Cancha Carrera on the Argentine side.
The road then continues through Santa Cruz Province toward El Calafate.
    What documents do passengers need?
Each passenger must carry a valid passport and any documents required to enter Argentina, depending on citizenship.
Please check visa requirements in advance if they apply to your group.
What should we know if traveling with children?
Please check the entry and exit document requirements for minors before the trip.
This is especially important if a child is traveling with only one parent, with relatives, or with another accompanying adult.
Can we plan a flight on the same day?
We do not recommend planning a tight flight connection on the same day as the international transfer.
The route includes a border crossing, and timing can be affected by weather, road conditions, and border queues. If you need to take a flight from El Calafate, allow plenty of extra time.
Can we go directly to El Calafate Airport (FTE)?
Yes, drop-off at El Calafate Airport (FTE) can be arranged.
Please share your flight time before booking so we can check whether the schedule is realistic.
Can we go directly to Perito Moreno Glacier?
Yes, this can be arranged by prior agreement.
Drop-off near Los Glaciares National Park, Perito Moreno Glacier, Puerto Banderas, or Puerto Bajo Las Sombras can be added if it works with the timing of the day. In that case, we will adjust the route and recalculate the service.
Are there stops on the way?
A standard transfer includes short stops for a bathroom break, coffee, or fuel.
If you want to stop for a visit, viewpoint, lunch, or longer break, we need to plan it before the trip.
    Is this a guided tour?
No. This is a private transfer, not a guided excursion.
A guide can be arranged separately if requested in advance and subject to availability.
Why choose a private transfer instead of a bus?
A private transfer gives you a direct route from your address in Puerto Natales to your final address in El Calafate.
You do not need to adjust your day to bus departures, go to the terminal, manage luggage between connections, or arrange extra transport on arrival.
This is especially useful for travelers with luggage, families, small groups, and guests with fixed hotel, airport, or glacier plans.
    Are food and drinks provided?
Bottled water is included in the vehicle.
On the Argentine side, we can make a short stop at a gas station or local shop where simple snacks and hot drinks are usually available.
    Can lunch boxes be arranged?
Yes. Upon advance request, at least 72 hours before departure, we can add lunch boxes from Bahía Mansa restaurant.
The usual format is simple and practical for the road: sandwiches, something sweet, fruit, and drinks such as tea, coffee, or juice. Please request this option in advance so it can be included in the transfer plan and price.
Can we travel directly from Torres del Paine to El Calafate without returning to Puerto Natales?
Yes. If you are already staying in Torres del Paine, we can arrange pickup directly from your hotel or an agreed meeting point in the park - including sectors such as Serrano, Lago Grey, Las Torres, Laguna Amarga, Pehoé, Pudeto, and Cerro Castillo, depending on the exact location.
This avoids returning to Puerto Natales for a regular bus connection. We continue directly toward the Río Don Guillermo / Cancha Carrera border crossing and on to El Calafate, El Calafate Airport (FTE), Perito Moreno Glacier, or another agreed address. The same applies in reverse, from El Calafate to your hotel in Torres del Paine.
How long does the transfer from Torres del Paine to El Calafate take?
From Torres del Paine the total time is usually longer than from Puerto Natales, because we first drive out of the park toward the border. Depending on your exact sector - Serrano, Lago Grey, Las Torres, Laguna Amarga, Pehoé, Pudeto, or Cerro Castillo - plan for around 6 to 8 hours in total, including the Río Don Guillermo / Cancha Carrera border crossing.
We confirm a realistic time once we know your exact pickup point.
Can we make photo stops inside Torres del Paine?
Yes, short photo stops at viewpoints (miradores) are possible if the timing of the day allows.
Because this is a private transfer without a guide, we keep stops brief - quick photo stops only, not hikes or walks. If you would like a proper sightseeing day inside the park, that is a separate guided service we can arrange in advance.
Is the Torres del Paine park entrance fee included?
No. The Torres del Paine National Park (CONAF) entrance fee is not included in the transfer and is paid separately by each traveler.
If your route passes through a park control point, please bring the fee or your valid ticket. The same applies to entrance fees on the Argentine side, such as Los Glaciares National Park.
What does the price depend on?
The price depends on the travel date, number of passengers, luggage volume, vehicle type, the start point (Puerto Natales or your sector in Torres del Paine), the final drop-off address, and any additional stops or services requested. Transfers starting inside Torres del Paine are usually priced higher than from Puerto Natales because of the extra distance from the park.
