Transfer Overview
A private transfer from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales is one of the main routes for travelers heading toward Torres del Paine National Park. The route follows paved Route 9, crossing the open Patagonian steppe between the two cities.
Pickup and drop-off are arranged door to door, in either direction, including Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ), which sits directly on the road between the two cities.
The distance is just under 250 km, and the drive usually takes about 3 hours. Travel time may vary depending on the exact pickup point, weather, road conditions, and any planned stops.
You can book it as a direct transfer, or add one stop planned in advance, such as a working sheep ranch, an Andean condor viewpoint, or a geological and archaeological site.
We choose the vehicle based on your group size and luggage, from SUV-class vehicles to vans and minibuses. When booking, please let us know the number of passengers, the ages of any children, and the number and size of suitcases (S, M, L, or XL). All stops and visits must be arranged in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Punta Arenas-Puerto Natales Private Transfer
How long is the drive from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales?
The exact timing depends on the pickup location, weather, road conditions, and the number of stops included. If your priority is to reach Puerto Natales as quickly as possible, the transfer can be operated without additional stops.
Can you pick us up at Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ)?
Many travelers fly into PUQ before continuing to Puerto Natales, thanks to more frequent flights, a wider choice of schedules, and often more accessible fares than smaller regional airports. It works well as a starting point for travelers continuing toward Torres del Paine, or farther on to Argentina's Santa Cruz Province and the town of El Calafate. Please share your flight details before booking so we can match the pickup to your arrival time.

What can we see on the way from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales?
• Estancia Olga Teresa - perhaps the most interesting ranch experience near Punta Arenas, in the rural Río Verde area about 80 km northwest of the city (a visit turns the express transfer into a full-day experience). This historic sheep ranch, founded in 1922, still preserves everyday estancia life: sheepdogs, sheep-shearing, the role of horses, family history, and a traditional Patagonian barbecue. Its most remarkable feature is Cerro Palomares, a rock formation long favored by Andean condors, among the largest flying birds in the world. In good afternoon conditions you may see condors soaring above the cliffs - this is not a zoo, and sightings are never guaranteed.
• Estancia Río Penitente - roughly halfway along Route 9 and close to the highway, a convenient lunch stop or short break in the atmosphere of a traditional sheep ranch. It works especially well for travelers arriving on a domestic flight, since hot meals are usually not available on local flights within Chile. A similar option closer to Puerto Natales is Llanuras de Diana, a hotel with a restaurant.
• Morro Chico - in the Laguna Blanca area, a short but meaningful stop for geology, archaeology, and the ancient history of Magallanes. This basalt formation is the volcanic neck of a long-eroded volcano, more than 8 million years old; rock art has been found on its walls and nearby remains are linked to the region's earliest inhabitants, with open views over the Río Penitente area from the top.
• Estancia Laguna Escondida or Estancia Cerro Negro - working ranches closer to Puerto Natales, connected to the living traditions of Patagonian rural culture. Depending on availability and the program confirmed in advance, guests may enjoy horseback riding, local food, lamb cooked over an open fire, sheep-shearing demonstrations, and an introduction to everyday ranch life.
How many stops do you recommend?
Olga Teresa - ideal for birdwatchers and young naturalists of all ages.
Río Penitente - a good choice for a countryside lunch halfway between the two cities.
Morro Chico - a short photo stop with a strong connection to the first peoples of the region and the geology of Magallanes.
Cerro Negro and Laguna Escondida - a deeper introduction to Patagonian ranch life and horseback riding closer to Puerto Natales.
Are there restaurants along the way, or should we bring our own food?
If the transfer is direct, we recommend eating at your hotel or planning a meal in Puerto Natales, which has several well-known restaurants, including Afrigonia, Santolla, and other excellent local options.
What should we know if traveling with children?
Please tell us the number and ages of children when booking so we can prepare suitable child or booster seats and choose the right vehicle.
Is this a guided tour?
It can be arranged as a direct point-to-point service or with one pre-arranged stop along the way. A guide can be arranged separately if requested in advance and subject to availability.
Why choose a private transfer instead of a bus?
You do not need to adjust your day to bus departures, go to the terminal, manage luggage between connections, or arrange extra transport on arrival. It also lets you add a pre-arranged stop that a scheduled bus cannot offer.
Can we book the transfer in the reverse direction?
For return transfers to catch a flight, please share your flight time so we do not plan the drive too tightly before departure.
