Santiago to Valparaíso via Olmué: Private Alpaca and Food Tour

Santiago to Valparaíso via Olmué: Private Alpaca and Food Tour
Olmué and Limache - Central Chile
Duration
Full DayType
All Ages
Tour Overview:
Turn your journey from Santiago to Valparaíso into a day in the countryside of Olmué and Limache. Taste goat cheese at Nonna Rosa, meet the alpacas at Alpacas Gulmué, try spinning their soft fiber into yarn and sit down to lunch with a craft beer tasting at TaussBräu.
It's a relaxed day of farms, animals, a hands-on craft and good local food. It works well for families traveling with children and grandparents: kids find out where milk and yarn come from, and adults get the cheese, the farmers' stories and the beer.
We pick you up at your hotel in Santiago with your luggage and take you to your hotel in Valparaíso at the end of the day. The tour is also available from Valparaíso to Santiago, or as a day trip starting and ending in either city. We adjust the order of the stops to your route.
Prefer a quicker drive with a wine stop? See our Valparaíso - Santiago private transfer via Casablanca. For a different alpaca farm combined with wine tasting, see the Alpaca Farm & Wine Tasting tour in the Aconcagua Valley.

Itinerary Details:
Hotel pickup in Santiago
We pick you up at your hotel in the morning. You can bring your luggage if you are continuing to Valparaíso. We confirm the departure time and vehicle size when booking.
Transfer from Santiago to Olmué
As we leave Santiago behind, the route takes us through the hills and valleys of the Coastal Range toward the small farms and rural communities of central Chile.
Goat cheese tasting at Nonna Rosa
Our first stop is Nonna Rosa, a goat cheese producer in Quebrada de Alvarado, near Olmué. Here, you will taste a selection of cheeses and learn about the farm's dairy products.
Find out how goat's milk is turned into cheese and why fresh and aged cheeses differ in flavor, aroma and texture. Kids get to see where the cheese on their plate comes from.
There will be time to buy any products you would like to take with you.
Transfer to Alpacas Gulmué
A short drive through the Olmué valley takes us to the alpaca farm.
Meet the alpacas at Alpacas Gulmué
At Alpacas Gulmué in Olmué, you will meet the farm's two types of alpaca, Huacaya and Suri, learn how they are cared for and watch their behavior.
You can feed them with the staff's help and take photos. If young animals are present and the hosts allow it, you may also meet the babies of the herd.
Alpaca fiber and spinning workshop
After meeting the animals, you will discover how their soft fiber becomes yarn.
An instructor will show you how the fiber is prepared and help you try a spinning wheel operated with a foot pedal. No knitting or spinning experience is needed: watch the demonstration first as loose fiber is drawn out and twisted into yarn, then try the movements yourself with help from the instructor.
Children can join in too, with help from a parent or the instructor. At the end, you can take home a small skein of yarn you have spun or an alpaca fiber pompom as a souvenir.
Transfer to Limache
After the alpaca farm, we continue to the neighboring town of Limache.
Lunch and craft beer at TaussBräu in Limache
Lunch is at TaussBräu, a family-run brewery and beer garden.
Adults can taste two beers, compare their flavors and enjoy them with dishes from the brewery's menu. We agree on the menu and beers in advance.
Children and anyone not drinking get non-alcoholic drinks. Please tell us about dietary requirements before booking so we can check the menu with the restaurant.
Transfer to Valparaíso
After lunch, we continue toward the Pacific coast.
Valparaíso
We drop you off at your hotel in Valparaíso, leaving the evening free for your own plans.
The tour can also start or finish at Valparaíso cruise port, or return to Santiago. Other pickup and drop-off locations can be agreed when booking.

Santiago to Valparaíso via Olmué Tour: Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a Santiago to Valparaíso transfer or a full-day tour?
The same program can be arranged from Valparaíso to Santiago, or as a day trip returning to your hotel in Santiago or Valparaíso. We plan the visit schedule around your starting point and where you want to finish.
How long does the tour take, and when do we stop for lunch?
Departure and arrival times depend on your hotel locations, the workshop, lunch arrangements and traffic. We confirm the schedule when booking. For tours starting elsewhere or running in the opposite direction, the order and timing of the visits are planned accordingly.
Is the tour suitable for families with young children?
At the brewery, children join the family lunch with appropriate dishes and non-alcoholic drinks. The beer tasting is for adults only.
What does the visit to Nonna Rosa include?
Watching the cheese being made, milking or petting the goats isn't part of the standard visit, but we can ask the producer if you tell us in advance.
Will we see baby animals, and can we bring food for them?
Please do not bring your own treats. Where feeding is allowed, use only the feed provided or approved by the farm staff and follow their instructions.
What does the spinning workshop involve, and do we need any experience?
No previous spinning or knitting experience is required. Younger children may need support from the instructor or a parent.
It's a taster, so you won't make a scarf or a toy, but you'll leave with a small skein of yarn or an alpaca fiber pompom.
Can we buy cheese and alpaca products to take with us?
If you plan to buy cheese, let us know so we can ask the producer about storage and suitable packaging for the rest of your journey. Taking cheese aboard a cruise ship or into another country depends on the cruise line's rules and the destination's entry requirements. Check these before buying; suitable packaging alone does not guarantee that the cheese will be allowed.
Can you adapt the tour if we do not drink beer or alcohol?
Does the brewery stop include a tour of the production area?
If you are interested in brewing, we can inquire about a separate visit to another brewery in Limache, with a chance to meet the brewer. We need to arrange this in advance.
Can you accommodate food allergies or special diets?
We'll check with the cheese producer and the restaurant and tell you what's possible.
Where will our luggage be during the visits?
We recommend keeping passports, money and valuables with you.
What should we wear and bring?
Bring a sun hat, sunscreen and an extra layer for the coast. A change of clothes can be useful for young children.
Can the tour finish in Viña del Mar, at Valparaíso cruise port or at Santiago Airport?
If you are joining a cruise that day, send us the ship's name, the departure port and the latest time you need to arrive. We will check whether the full program fits your schedule and shorten it if necessary.
For an evening flight, we can arrange drop-off at Santiago Airport or a nearby hotel. Send us your flight details in advance so we can plan the route and allow enough time for the airport.
