Transfer Overview

A private transfer from Valparaíso, Viña del Mar or Concón to Mendoza is an overland crossing of the Andes through Paso Los Libertadores, known as Cristo Redentor on the Argentine side. This is the main international corridor between central Chile and Mendoza, Argentina. The direct route is about 390 km.

The service is door to door: we pick you up at your hotel, Valparaíso cruise port or a private address in Viña del Mar or Concón, and take you directly to your address in Mendoza. The transfer is also available in the opposite direction, from Mendoza back to the Chilean coast, with no bus terminals and no connections along the way.

Depending on the option you choose, the day can remain a direct international transfer or include one planned stop along the route, such as Portillo and Laguna del Inca, a winery in the Aconcagua Valley, or a possible photo stop near Potrerillos after the border. Each option is described below.

The transfer is operated with our own Ford Transit Custom minibus, or a similar-class vehicle, for up to 8 passengers. It is a modern vehicle driven by a professional driver and set up for long-distance comfort. The cabin has front and rear air conditioning, generous legroom, privacy-tinted windows and a luggage compartment that holds up to 8 large suitcases plus carry-ons. Luggage assistance is part of the service, and the timing is planned around real border conditions, cruise schedules and traffic conditions.

When you request the transfer, please let us know the number of passengers, the ages of any children, and the number and size of your suitcases.

All options are private, door-to-door transfers and are priced on request. This is a long international route, so the schedule can include no more than one planned stop. We do not combine several visits on the same day. Any option with a stop should be planned as a long travel day, with timing always subject to road, weather, and border conditions.
Option 1Direct International TransferThe most straightforward option
A private door-to-door transfer from Valparaíso, Viña del Mar or Concón to Mendoza, following the most direct route available for this border crossing. This is the best choice if you want to keep the day predictable, protect your check-in time, or arrive in Mendoza with minimum detours.

The route includes only brief practical stops when needed, such as restroom, coffee, or fuel stops.
Option 2Stop at Portillo and Laguna del IncaA practical high-mountain stop on the Chilean side
This option includes one planned stop at Portillo, by Laguna del Inca, near the Los Libertadores pass. It is the easiest way to add a high-mountain view without making a major detour from the route.

The stop gives you time to enjoy the view and take photos, while still continuing to Mendoza the same day. As with any Andes crossing, the final timing depends on road, weather, and border conditions. Plan this version as a long travel day.
Option 3Wine Tasting in the Aconcagua ValleyOne pre-booked tasting before the mountain road
This version adds one winery stop in the Aconcagua Valley before the road begins to climb into the Andes. We choose a winery close enough to the international route so the detour stays reasonable.

Depending on the date and availability, the stop can be arranged at In Situ / Viña San Esteban, near the Paidahuén hills and their ancient rock engravings, or at Viña El Escorial, a small winery in Panquehue that offers tastings and simple visitor experiences.

The tasting must be booked in advance for a fixed time. We keep it as a tasting stop, not a long lunch, so the day remains manageable. Plan this version as a long travel day.
Option 4Potrerillos Photo Stop on the Argentine SidePossible only if the day is running smoothly
After the border crossing and the tunnel, the Argentine side opens into a wider Andean landscape on the way down toward Mendoza. If the crossing has gone smoothly and there is enough daylight left, we may add a short photo stop near Potrerillos, with views of the reservoir and the surrounding mountains.

This is not a guaranteed visit and cannot be confirmed in advance. It depends on border timing, daylight, weather, and road conditions, so the driver confirms it during the trip.

A visit to the thermal springs at Cacheuta does not fit into a one-day Valparaíso-Mendoza transfer. It should be planned as a separate service, ideally with an overnight stay in Mendoza.

FAQ: Valparaíso, Viña del Mar and Concón to Mendoza Transfers

What documents do we need for the Chile-Argentina border crossing?
Each passenger must carry a valid passport or ID card, depending on their nationality and the current border requirements, together with any visa or entry documents that may apply.

Please check visa and entry requirements in advance. Border requirements are the responsibility of each traveler, and the exact document rules may depend on nationality, residence status and current regulations.
Will we see snow on the way?
Snow is seasonal on this route. In the colder months, or right after winter weather, you may see snow clearly on the high sections of the pass.

In warmer periods, the landscape is usually dry, rocky and high-mountain rather than snowy.
What should we know about winter and seasonal border conditions?
The Los Libertadores / Cristo Redentor crossing may close or operate with restrictions due to snow, bad weather, chain controls or mountain safety conditions.

In winter, travel time can be much less predictable. The day may be affected by migration and customs formalities, truck and passenger queues, possible reduced operating hours, slower driving on the high mountain sections and last-minute road management decisions at the pass.
What altitude effects should we consider on the way?
On the high Andean part of the road, you may notice thinner air, lower temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds.

We suggest dressing in layers and carrying sun protection, especially if your transfer includes a planned stop at Portillo, Laguna del Inca or another exposed mountain area.
Which days are best for crossing the border?
The most predictable days are usually outside national holidays, long weekends and vacation peaks. During busy periods, queues at the border can be much longer and less predictable.

If your dates are flexible, we recommend choosing a regular weekday during the warmer, drier months between October and April.
What can affect the final price of the transfer?
The price depends on the travel date, the pickup point on the coast, the final address in Mendoza, the group size, the amount of luggage, and whether the service is booked one way or as a round trip.

A planned stop, extra waiting time, special routing, or services outside the direct transfer are calculated separately.
