Olive Oil and Isla Negra: Private Shore Excursion from San Antonio Port

Your guide and driver will meet you at the cruise passenger terminal.

We'll drive north along the coast to Quintún, in Mirasol near Algarrobo.

Quintún grows Arbequina, Picual and Frantoio olives near the Pacific, where the groves get a cool sea breeze. The farm has its own mill and blends the three varieties to make its oil.
We'll walk through the groves and learn how the trees are cared for, when the olives are picked, and how the oil is extracted, stored and bottled. There are fruit trees here too, including cherimoya and lúcuma.
After the walk, we'll sit down at a table overlooking the ocean to try the oil, first on its own and then with bread and local products. It has a mild, fruity flavour, a hint of green almond and a little pepperiness at the end.
The harvest usually runs from mid-April to early June. During those months, you may see the mill working. The farm is also open for visits outside harvest season: we'll see the groves, learn about the production process and taste the oil.

From Quintún, we'll drive to Neruda's house museum in Isla Negra.

Isla Negra was the home of Pablo Neruda, the celebrated Chilean poet, diplomat and political figure who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971. The house preserves his living spaces and study, as well as the collections he assembled over many years.
There are wooden ship figureheads, model sailing ships, ships in bottles, seashells and masks brought back from his travels. You don't need to know his poetry to enjoy the house and its collections.
The house itself was built of stone and wood and grew room by room over the years, with narrow corridors, low ceilings and windows looking straight out to the Pacific, much like a ship. Outside, we walk around the grounds on the rocky shore, with wide views of the ocean.

Time for lunch at the restaurant in Isla Negra.

After Isla Negra, we'll head to Lo Abarca, a small village in the San Antonio wine region.

For those who'd like to taste the wines, there's a short tasting of about 35 minutes, without a tour of the winery, and a visit to the wine shop. The tasting costs extra and needs to be booked before the tour.

From Lo Abarca, it's about 20 minutes back to the cruise terminal. We'll get you there with time to spare before you need to be on board.
