Tour Overview

This small group Patagonia hiking tour crosses southern Argentina and Chile. The route includes Buenos Aires, El Chaltén, El Calafate, Los Glaciares National Park, Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine.

This is a hotel-based hiking tour. We walk the trails during the day and return to hotels at night. There is no camping and no need to carry a heavy backpack. Domestic flights according to the itinerary, hotels, transfers, entrance tickets and guided activities are included.

In Argentina, we first spend time in El Chaltén. We hike to Laguna Torre, with views toward the Fitz Roy massif, and take another shorter route in the Lago del Desierto and Laguna Huemul area.

We then continue to El Calafate and Los Glaciares National Park. The program includes Perito Moreno Glacier and a boat trip with short walks inside the park.

In Chile, we continue to Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine National Park. We spend one day moving through the park by road, with viewpoints and short walks along the way. The following day is dedicated to the Base Las Torres trail, the best-known hike in Torres del Paine.

This is an active Patagonia hiking tour, not a technical expedition. The route includes long walking days, rocky trails, Patagonian wind and fast-changing mountain weather. Participants should be in good physical condition and used to walking for several hours at a time.

Tour Map

1

Arrival in Buenos Aires - free day

Our Patagonia tour starts in Buenos Aires. Your hotel is booked in a well-located area of the city.

2

Guided walk around Buenos Aires

On our first guided day, we will explore Buenos Aires. The city grew beside the wide estuary of the Río de la Plata, on flat land that opens toward the Pampas. Over time, it was shaped by immigration, trade, and the constant movement of people, ideas and money.

3

Flight to El Calafate and transfer to El Chaltén

After breakfast, we will transfer to the airport for our morning flight to El Calafate. About four hours later, we will arrive in southern Patagonia.

4

Trek to Laguna Torre

Today we will take one of the best day hikes in the El Chaltén area: the trail to Laguna Torre. The hike is long, but the ascent is gradual. The full route is about 19 km and usually takes 7-8 hours.

5

Trek at Lago del Desierto and transfer to El Calafate

After breakfast, we leave El Chaltén and drive toward Lago del Desierto, about 37 km north of the village. This area is quieter and greener than the main trails around El Chaltén.

6

Mayo Spirit trek and the Perito Moreno boardwalks

This day brings a different rhythm to our Patagonia tour: we will explore Los Glaciares National Park from the water and on foot. The Mayo Spirit Trek combines a boat trip on Lago Argentino with short walks on shore, forest trails, waterfalls, glacier views and a visit to Perito Moreno Glacier.

7

Crossing to Puerto Natales with a Patagonian ranch

After breakfast, we visit an Argentine estancia, a Patagonian ranch. This gives us a chance to see Patagonia beyond glaciers, lakes and mountain trails.

8

Torres del Paine National Park day

Today we spend the day in Torres del Paine National Park, one of the most recognizable places in Chilean Patagonia. After the international transfer the day before, we start later than usual, at 10:00, so the morning is not rushed.

9

Trek to the Las Torres towers

Today is the main trekking day in Torres del Paine: the Base Las Torres trail. The route leads to the lagoon at the foot of the granite towers that gave the park its name.

10

Cerro Benítez walk and flight to Santiago

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and drive toward Puerto Natales Airport. Before the flight, we end our Patagonia hiking tour with an easy walk near Cerro Benítez.

FAQ: Patagonia Hiking & Trekking Tour

How many people are in the group?
This is a small group Patagonia tour with a maximum of 14 travelers. The group is small enough to keep the logistics smooth, especially in Patagonia, where hotels, transfers and activities often need to be arranged well in advance.
What is included in the tour price?
The tour includes accommodation, domestic flights according to the program, checked luggage on included flights, ground transfers, guided activities, entrance tickets and excursions listed in the itinerary. International flights, travel insurance, personal expenses, tips and meals not mentioned in the program are not included.
Is this a hotel-based tour or a camping trek?
This is a hotel-based Patagonia hiking tour. We do several hikes and active days, but we do not sleep in tents or mountain camps. Accommodation is arranged in hotels along the route, which makes the tour more comfortable than a classic camping trek.
    How difficult are the hikes?
The tour is active, but it is not a technical mountain expedition. The hardest day is the Base Las Torres hike in Torres del Paine: about 20 km, usually 8-9 hours, with roughly 900 metres of elevation gain. Participants should be comfortable walking uphill for several hours and moving on rocky terrain. On some days, lighter alternatives may be available.
Are the activities guided in English?
Yes. The activities and excursions are guided in English. In some places, services may be shared with other travelers, depending on the activity, but the program is arranged as a small group tour with English-speaking guiding during the included excursions.
What happens if the weather changes the program?
Patagonia weather can change quickly, especially in the mountains and near the glaciers. The order of activities may be adjusted because of wind, visibility, boat schedules, trail conditions or flight changes. When this happens, we keep the route as close as possible to the original program, but safety and real local conditions always come first.
