    1

Arrival in Punta Arenas and a private city tour

Your driver will meet you at Punta Arenas Airport and take you to your hotel. With a morning or early afternoon arrival, there is time to settle in before heading out to see the city.

    2

Magdalena Island penguins and Fort Bulnes

An early start takes you to the pier for the boat trip to Magdalena Island. The crossing of the Strait of Magellan takes around an hour each way. Once ashore, you have about an hour to follow the marked trail through the Magellanic penguin colony, stopping to watch the birds and take photographs.

    3

Nao Victoria Museum, Andean condors and Puerto Natales

In the morning, we visit the Nao Victoria Museum. Its full-size replicas include the Victoria, the first ship to sail around the world, as well as HMS Beagle and Shackleton's lifeboat, the James Caird.

    4

Torres del Paine National Park and Milodon Cave

We leave Puerto Natales early and drive across the open Patagonian steppe toward Torres del Paine National Park. The route takes us to Lake Sarmiento, Lake Nordenskjöld and Lake Pehoé, stopping at viewpoints along the way. From the lakes, we see the mountains from different angles, including the Cuernos del Paine. In clear weather, the three Paine towers may also be visible.

    5

A day at Estancia La Península

In the morning, a private transfer takes us to the pier at Puerto Bories, and we cross Última Esperanza Sound by boat to the Antonio Varas Peninsula for a day at Estancia La Península. This working sheep and cattle ranch belongs to the MacLean family, whose roots in Patagonia go back to the late nineteenth century. Through their history and the work of the estancia, we learn about the region's pioneering ranching families and the traditions passed down through generations.

    6

    Departure from Puerto Natales

A private transfer takes you from your hotel to Puerto Natales Airport for your onward flight. We arrange the pickup time according to your flight schedule.

6-Day Private Patagonia Tour: Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time for this 6-day Patagonia tour?
The itinerary is designed for the Magdalena Island sailing season, generally October to March, when the Magellanic penguins are on the island. December and January usually have the most birds.

Departure dates depend on the availability of the boat excursion and local services, so send us your preferred dates and we will check them.
    Is the tour private?
All transfers are private, including the airport pickup, the drive to Puerto Natales and the transfers to and from the pier on Day 5. The Punta Arenas city tour, Fort Bulnes and the day in Torres del Paine are private too.

Three visits are shared with other guests and follow the operators' timetables: the boat trip to Magdalena Island, the condor visit at Estancia Olga Teresa and the day at Estancia La Península.
What happens if the penguin boat trip is canceled?
Sailings and landings depend on the weather and sea conditions, and the port authority can close the port in strong wind. If the excursion cannot operate, we will review possible changes to the program with you, such as another sailing time or an alternative activity in Punta Arenas.
How much walking is involved, and is it suitable for children?
The trip combines sightseeing by vehicle with short walks on natural terrain. Day 2 has an early start and a full afternoon excursion, and Torres del Paine is another full day. At Estancia La Península, you can choose a two-hour horse ride or a guided walk.

Tell us the children's ages and any walking limitations, and we will adjust the pace and the walks.
    Are hotels and meals included?
The trip includes five nights: two in Punta Arenas and three in Puerto Natales. Hotels, meals and entrance fees are itemized in your personalized quotation, based on your accommodation preferences.

If you have already booked your hotels, we can arrange the private transfers and excursions only.
Do you provide an English-speaking guide?
Airport and intercity transfers are provided by Spanish-speaking drivers. An English-speaking guide can be arranged for the land excursions at an additional cost; let us know when you request a quote.
    Which flights should we book?
The trip starts at Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ) and finishes at Puerto Natales Airport (PNT), so there is no need to drive back to Punta Arenas. For Day 1, a morning or early afternoon arrival leaves time for the city tour.

Flights from Puerto Natales operate mainly in the summer season. Please check flight times with us before booking; if there is no suitable flight from Puerto Natales on your date, we can arrange a private transfer to Punta Arenas Airport instead.
Can we extend the trip to El Calafate or El Chaltén?
Yes. From Puerto Natales, we can arrange a private transfer to El Calafate in Argentina for the Perito Moreno Glacier, and continue to El Chaltén. Tell us how many extra days you have and we will suggest a longer itinerary.
