Itinerary Details:
Day 1Half-Day Akivi Tour
Following your arrival at Easter Island at one of the Hanga Roa hotels, your half-day tour begins at 15:00.
The first spot will be the Ahu Tahai historic site, located on the coast of the town of Hanga Roa. You'll see three restored platforms and one fascinating moai with white coral eyes, the only one on the island. After that, we will head up to Ahu Akivi, a place with seven moai statues facing the sea.
The statues were restored in 1960 and symbolize looking to the future while waiting for the arrival of relatives from Polynesia. Continuing, we visit the volcano Puna Pau. At the top, you will see a crater filled with red scoria, a raw material used for carving the "hats" on the moai statues. Scenic view from the top: Right at the top is a perfect view of the volcano Terevaka and a significant extensive part of the town.
Day 2Full-Day Anakena Tour
The second day of our Easter Island tour will be an entire day of exposure to the island's southern shored. First, we visit Vaihu Village. During this stop, you will visit a restored Rapa Nui village with typical houses showing how Easter Island's ancient inhabitants used to live. From here, we will head towards the platform Ahu Akahanga, where you will see 12 moai with their back to the sea and a typical Rapa Nui settlement, including several ancient ovens and a cave. Continuing to the east, you will get to Ahu Tongariki, which is famous for its platform of 15 restored moai.
Further on, you will visit the Rano Raraku volcano, where around 400 moai in various stages of carving can be found on its slopes. Here, we will walk around, and your local guide will give you more details about the methods the statues used to be carved and transported while at the same time feeling the special magic of the place. The tour will continue at the paradisiacal Anakena Beach, with white coral sand and turquoise water, creating the perfect relaxing spot. On this beach are housed Ahu Nau Nau and Ahu Ature Huki platforms, which have become important points of archaeological discoveries. Here, you will have time to enjoy the beach before we return to the town of Hanga Roa.
Day 3Half-Day Orongo Tour
Today at 09:00, we start our half-day tour, visiting the Ahu Vinapu platform.
The first thing we see is the Ahu Tahira wall, which resembles the construction of the Incas. This red scoria wall is famous for its unique masonry technique, similar to ancient Peruvian buildings. Then, the trip continues to Rano Kau volcano, one of the biggest natural spectacles on the island. You will feel that you are at the center of the world when you look into its huge, picturesque crater surrounded by the sea.
You will also visit the ceremonial village of Orongo, one of the most important places to understand the last phase of Easter Island's cultural development before the missionaries arrived. It is an enclave bathed in legends about the Birdman or Tangata Manu cult. Your guide will tell you about the competitions held here for over two centuries, where participants made bold voyages to the islet of Motu Nui to bring back the first egg of the manutara seabird. The winner earned the title of king and leader of the island.
